Dylan Stone, who lives and works in the UK is a conceptualist. He is known for the ambitious projects and performances he realized in NYC in the late 90s' and early 2000. "Drugstore Photographs or a Trip Along the Yangtze River" (1999) consisted in photographing every building on every city block in Manhattan. A section was completed and acquired by the New York Public Library. In 2002, his project entitled "Sherrie Levine by Dylan Stone" borrowed from Levine's 1997 rephotographs of Atget's photographs of turn-of-the-century Parisian interiors. Out of shoe boxes, Stone meticulously replicated with color and in 3D, these sepia tone interiors from 1909-1910. In 2005, he presented at Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery a life size scale watercolor of his parents bookshelf. Entitled 'Barbara and David Stone's Bookshelf' it is a moving portrait of his parents, his family, the books they read and places they went.
Performances by Stone have involved baking-until-he-drops, sewing-shirts, sitting-in-a-museum, re-ordeing the old-books section at Strand Bookstore in NYC and pressing-flowers. Through his collecting, sorting, indexing, codifying, compiling the artist has developed systems of representation in which past and present merge.
Stone was included in Greater New York at MoMA, P.S.1 in 2000 and in 1998 he received an award from the Rema Hort Mann Foundation.
